What I'm lovin' Wednesday-upcycled or recycled???

By kate blue - Wednesday, June 08, 2011

I know everybody loves the decorative trays (Tim Holtz,7 Gypsies, etc...)  that are popular right now and I get asked about the one I did (with Lisa Hetrick) that sits in my living room all the time so I decided to make one "on the cheap" for my mom since she was coming to visit.  So, on this wonderful Wednesday...a quick "show-you"..... I grabbed a paper mache tray ($3 @ Michael's after using a coupon) that I had in the scrap closet and decided to give it an upcycled/recycled re-do:  All you need is any old tray (think rescue from thrift shop-metal, cardboard, wood...), cardboard boxes, glue (I used Aleene's tacky glue in the brown bottle), paint, a paint brush and your choice of scrapbook papers & embellishments!

,
take your tray and paint it the color of your choice-I chose black

I recycled/upcycled earring boxes from Kohls

paint and ink the boxes too-your choice of colors matching or non

let dry and then start putting it together
I glued paper (isn't that Tim Holtz lady kraft resist paper pretty cool?? My mom is a seamstress so I loved using the "pattern" paper), I also used gcd studios patterned paper in the background.  Hmmm..supplies?? odds n ends trims & buttons from Maya Road, other supplies from Crate Paper, Websters Pages, Jenni, MME, Prima flowers and more..

I may go back and add a little piece of tape measure & maybe one more thing after I add the photo...but for now, here is how it ended up...tfl !! and if you make your own, send me the link so I can praise it!

linking up to some awesome Wednesday linky parties too!
