**Just putting out some information that I thought would be helpful....If anybody wants to join me at the meeting, let me know!  It's unfortunate but true that we folks in Maryland have to book our kids summer camps in Jan & Feb so that we can get slots!!
Today’s summer camps offer so much more to our kids with special needs than just camping! Consider what goals to set for your child, and what activities will be the most beneficial over the summer months. Summer camp experiences can strengthen overall abilities, remediate academics, enhance social skills, develop executive functions and build self-esteem. This program is presented by the Howard County Autism Society, but would be appropriate for families of children with other disabilities.

I feel it's important to list these things that are happening in my community for those of us with kids with "different abilities"....you may see Thing 2 at some of these events so that's why I post them :):)  Many times the regular kids just run all over those who need a slower pace and during the holidays, there's some nice events taking place.  Great idea for a "Dad and me" craft date ! !

Bring your preschool or elementary aged children out for a fun morning of creating winter crafts. We will provide the crafts and a light snack, all you need to bring is yourself and your little one. This event is specifically for children with developmental delays and disabilities, but siblings are welcome. Please call the Family Support and Resource Center at 410 313-7161 to register for this free event. Dads – if you want to bring the children to the craft party your kids will leave with a few hand made gifts for mom!

Does your child’s sensory issues prevent him from visiting Santa at the mall? Come to the Sensory Santa before the stores open to the public for a quieter, more sensory-friendly opportunity to visit Santa during the holidays. The music and water fountains will be turned off, and we’ll have numbers to hand out so you won’t have to stand in a long line. We’ll provide some activities to help pass the time in a fun, festive way.

The event is intended for anyone who may wish to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

Jellystone Park is celebrating its 100th anniversary but attendance is down and Mayor Brown wants to close the park and sell the land. If the park is closed, Yogi Bear and Boo Boo will lose the only home they've ever known. Yogi must prove that he really is "smarter than the average bear" as he and Boo Boo join forces with Ranger Smith to find a way to save Jellystone Park from closing forever.

This course teaches basic sign language with modifications and adaptations as needed for individuals with special needs. Learn how to use signs to help your child communicate, handle social situations and reduce tantrums. The class is perfect for families, healthcare providers and educators working with children with special needs. Participants will be given a DVD to take home to practice what they have learned.
